DIY vs BUY - Soundproofing

Laptop Fan Sound Absorption and Ventilation

Yes there are a few cheap laptop ventilation products out there that may or may not work, but I have leftover DIY materials and nothing gets thrown away around these parts!

Fan noise has not been as much of a problem since I traded in my old Alienware which had a fan that sounded like snowblower when it kicked into high gear. I made an extremely simple closed cell acoustic foam stand that I still use with my new laptop. It holds the fans up for easy air intake to reduce heat buildup and helps absorb vibration and fan sound. Once I started using this thing, my alienware's massive fan almost never went into snowblower mode and was no longer audible on my recordings. I also built a shelf under my desk to house my external hard drives, computer and anything else noisy. That helped to block electronic and fan noise a good bit as well.
